When I think Nia, I feel mindful. When I feel Nia, I feel joy. When I move Nia, I feel pleasure. When I dance Nia, I am free.
I found Nia in 2012 and quickly became enamored with the sense of freedom I felt to move in ways that felt good to me and allowed me to connect to who I was and what I was sensing in my body. As an adult, I knew the importance of movement and sought out many different modalities - Tai Chi, racquet sports, Qigong, Yoga, hiking, weight training and all were helpful and offered their unique benefits. With Nia, I loved how it made me feel both strong and gentle, linear and circular, and how it taught me to use my whole body for systemic movement - I felt harmonious in my body for the first time. It felt good to feel good while I was moving and that in itself kept me eager for more. In 2017, I stepped into become a facilitator and marveled at both the complexity and simplicity of the practice and how its design enabled me to feel that same body-harmony I felt in class begin to incorporate itself into my daily living. It's a practice (for sure!) but one that's proving to be sustainable.
The same nurturing, unconditional, supportive space Nia gives me is what I bring to my facilitation of the Nia practice. With an open invitation to come as you are and be supported to receive the benefits of your movement, my desire is that you know your own wellness in all of its forms and really meet yourself there, thrilled by the invitation of your life.
